My dear Mr. Muir,

I had already heard of the sudden move to rush the Hetch Hetchy bill through Congress from Mr. Allen Chamberlain, when I received your urgent letter to do something at once. I sent a lettergram to the Committee of Public Lands yesterday and followed it up with additional letters to-day. Mr. Whitman, I understand, went to Washington yesterday. You know what a strong advocate he is.
I hope this sudden move by the selfish San Francisco interests will be nipped in the bud and finished for good. It is disheartening that so much effort must be wasted in our country in trying to keep things just and right that ought never to have come into question.
I hope this note will find you very well. I remember my visit of last August with great pleasure.

Sincerely yours,

[illegible]
