My dear brother John:-
Your letter bringing me your warm congratulations and kind wishes has been received and gave me much pleasure. My "Shower" proved to be a heavy one bringing me more than 180 cards besides letters and other remembrances from friends and relatives scattered here and there over 15

different States, quite a number were from some of those we knew while on the farm, and many from Portage friends all with greetings and kind wishes. All had been managed so well that they came to me as a complete surprise, I felt overwhelmed with so much kindness.
Very lately I received a long letter from Mrs Sanderson
at present she is in her daughter's home in Milwaukee. She always wishes to be remembered to you. She reads all connected with your work with much pleasure and feels proud to remember that she knew you as a boy.
How many memories of the long ago have been brought up, hearing from so many old friends.
Thanking you again I am
Affectionately
Your Sister Sarah.
