Dear Mrs Bidwell:
Many thanks for the sketch of the blessed General's career, Mr Benjamin seems to have done his work lovingly well but the sketch is too short. Some time I hope to see the General's life written deep & broad like his character & influence on our grand state.
The portrait is very fine & lifelike The foreword too is good, The sketch I have not yet read on account of anxious are of my daughter Helen. This evening we take the train for the Mohave desert near Daggett where or in some similar dry place she will have to stay a year or two, she is now slowly convale[illegible]sing from an attack of pneumonia brought on by a severe influenza cold.
Remember me warmly to Sallie & believe me ever faithfully your friend
