Mr. John Muir,
Martinex, Cal.

Dear Sir:-

Permit me to acknowledge receipt of your kind favor of the 4th inst. from which I am extremely gratified to learn that I was right in my contention about the Red Fir and Douglas Spruce.
I am sorry to learn that you have not yet published anything on your trip to the Caucasus, and if you ever do I want to be sure to pet it. In regard to joining the Sierra, Club. I shall be glad to look into this, though unfortunately I am obliged to combine [business] with pleasure in my summer outings, and while they take me to the Sierras it is not generally in the direction of the Sierra Club outings.
Thanking yoù sincerely for your reply and hoping some time to have the pleasure of making your acquaintance, I am,

Yours very truly,
