Hon. C. A. Ficke,
Davenport, Iowa.
My Dear Sir:-
I have your favor of 25th, the same having seen forwarded here from Washington, and I note fully what you say. I will promptly file a protest with Secretary Garfield, and back it up with a strong letter. A year or two ago I had a long talk with Mr. Catkins (whom I know well) regarding conditions in the Yosemite and Yellowstone, and I found that he had possessed broad and patristic views regarding these public parks. I am certain from the conversation I had with him at that time that his protest is founded on the broad ground of the general public interest, and I shall endeavor to emphasize this in my letter to Secretary Garfield.
Thanking you for bring the matter to my attention, and with high regard, believe me,
Very truly yours,
[illegible]
