My dear Professor Muir:
I received your letter of December 29th just before departing for the Fayûm desert of Egypt. It was great to hear from you and I wish we could see you and tell you of our wonderfully interesting journey into the desert where we got the ancestors of the elephant.
Yours faithfully,
[illegible]Professor John Muir.
