Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Cal.

My Dear Mr. Muir:-

May I have your permission to publish you An adventure with a Dog and A Glacier's The Century Company are agreeable subject to your wishes. I am planning to issue from year to year a few choice short words by California authors to be very creditably done on handmade paper and suitable press work. I would like to include the above as one of the first. If you desire we will publish this under our regular terms of royalty on sales or if you prefer I will remit you $75.00 for the publication privilege.
May I ask you to kindly let me know at your earliest convenience as it is very important for us to complete our plans for the year. If you consent to my suggestions please advise me on the following points.
First. Title. Will it be agreeable to you for us to use as the title the name of the dog "Sticken", running your present title as a sub-titles
Second. Have You a photograph of 'Sticken' or falling this, can you give anything better than your description in the story as a guide to an artist. I plan to have a photograph of the dog as a frontispiece done in photographure.
Awaiting your reply, I remain,

Very truly yours,

[illegible]
