Dear Mr. Muir,

A few days ago I had a most breezy and delightful call from our friend, Mr. C.F. Lummis. Several things which came up in the course of conversation with him reminded me that you had promised us, if I mistake not, some time ago a paper dealing with your experiences in your trip to the Orient two years ago.
As Mr. Perry is now in Europe enjoying a sabbatical six months, I do not know precisely what correspondence he may have had with you in the matter, and I do not find any recent letters concerning it in the file.
We should, however, be specially pleased to know that we could count on something of the sort from you at any time within the next eight or nine months.
If you will let me know at your convenience whether you are engaged upon any writing of this kind and whether we may hope to see it, I shall be greatly obliged, as we are specially desirous of making some announcement of it in the fall prospectus which will presently be issued.
Believe me

Sincerely yours,

[illegible]
