[29?] Martinez, Jan. 22, 1906.
Dear Emily, I am glad to hear of your happy visit to old east friends & homes & safe return to those of the west side of our grand continent. Helen is getting better she is in Arizona at Adamana on the Santa Fe R.R near the great Petrified Forests, I have to spend most of my time there also coming here now & then to look after things. Of course all Martinez letters are forwarded to Adamana but the old desolate home is closed. I had not heard of the sale of your Oakland home. Where now are you going to make home? How long & short a time seems to lie between these California & old Mondell days! When shall we meet to recall the eventful Prairie du Chien period. I should like to see those old letters & to keep them when you are done with them.
I wonder if you got my letter sent in reply to one of yours, from Chicago I think.
In a few days I expect to start back to Adamana. Had I known you were passing on your way to Los Angeles I should have tried to get you to stop off for a good long visit, I suppose Helen will remain there all next summer & possibly another winter. Let us hear from you often Letters addressed to me either to Martinez, or Adamana, Arizona will reach me
Remember me to your old friends & believe me with best wishes for the New Year ever my dear Emily faithfully yours
