THE WORLDS
WORK

Jan. 4, 1906.

Dear Mr. Muir:

The best reward that an editor gets for his work is the pleasure of knowing the men and the women who write for his periodicals; and I have found this a very great pleasure. I have had the good fortune to publish in "The Forum" or "The Atlantic" or "The World's Work," these fifteen years, some of the best things from most of the best writers on contemporary subjects. Not only do I feel myself indebted to them, but they stand in my mind also as the greatest public benefactors---leaders and instructors, and inspirers.
I want the photographs of the best of them in my workshop, and I hope that I have earned the right to ask if you will not send me yours, with your autograph.

Always heartily yours,

[illegible]
