as to Helens sickness
Martinez Oct. 13. 1905
Dear Mr Lukens,
I had hoped to see you ere this but have been prevented by a lot of obstacles. Helen after gaining seemingly almost perfect recovery, able to ride 30 or 40 miles a day had a dangerous relapse & was in bed 10 days. This was about 4 weeks ago, she has made a rapid recovery - is now about as you saw her last & we hope the terrible lesson will make her truly careful hereafter. With warm best wishes to you all & hoping your dear
wife is not suffering pain. I am faithfully yours
John Muir
I start back to Adamana tomorrow. Had to come to the desolate home on business. Helen will probably have to remain in Arizona a year or more.
