[First draft of letter, in note-book]
Martinez, March 6, '05.
Mr. Alexander B. Thaw,
New York.
Dear Sir:
I thank you for a copy of your Inaugural Ode you so kindly sent me. I have not yet found time to give it a careful reading. No doubt you have greatly enjoyed your work. It is a glorious subject, and judging from the few pages I have had time to read I shall find in it many fine thoughts.
With best wishes, and hoping to meet you ere long, I am,
Faithfully yours,
[John Muir]
