Dear Mr. Johnson:
Action on the bill was postponed last Tuesday after an all day dreary fluffy debate, to be taken up again next Thrusday Feb 2d Opponents have fired all their amunition, — mostly blank sham cartridges & abuse, while our best & heaviest is still in the locker. They claim that if the question had been put to vote we would have been defeated by 3 or 4 votes. We certainly would not, & next Thursday they will I guess be wiser & sadder. I feel more confident than ever.
Have not written to the president The assurance sought by Colby was of course out of the question.
Ever Yours
