My dear Mr. Muir:
Yours of January 6th is at hand. Why will you not let us see one of the chapters of your book on "The Yosemite and Other Sierra Valleys"? It will probably serve our purpose, and its publication, accompanied with a notice that the book was forthcoming would help the sale of the book. If your publisher does not object- and if he is a wise man he will not - please let us see two or three of the chapters from which we can make our choice.
Yours sincerely,
[illegible]
Mr. John Muir,
Martinez,
California.
