I have re’d [ nad?] with great interest, and laid before the Academy of Sciences, your valuable “studies in the formation of Mountains in the Sierra Nevada, California”, for which please accept official and personal thanks. By way of reip[illegible]ity, I forward for your acceptance a copy of Vol. II, [illegible] Wis. Acad. You are to be congratulated on the success of your scientific labors and on the [ honorable?] recognition
