Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Cal.
Dear Mr. Muir,
I have just returned from a trip to Charleston, S.C. and find your letter of February 22nd, containing the proofs of the cuts for your articles. We have rejected the one you think useless and will try to have the changes you suggest made in the others. The engraving of Mr. Hill's picture is finished, and under the circumstances I think it has turned out very well. It was a difficult subject, without the painting at hand for the engraver to consult, but we have done the best we could with it and I hope the result will be satisfactory to you.
My trip to Charleston didi me a great deal of good. I found the climate delightful, but by t he time we reached Philadelphia on the way home it was cold and disagreeable. Please remember me kindly to all at your house and to our mutual friends in San Francisco, and believe me
Yours very sincerely,
