Dear friend

Many thanks for the copy of your delightful book "The Mountains of California" I am more pleased with it than I can express, and feel how glad I should have been to have been your companion on one of your mountain journeys, but it would not have suited me for I could not have stood the cold of some parts, the winters here are quite enough for me. I hope that you may make another visit to this part of the world we shall all be glad to see you and now again thanking you for the kind present I am now & always

Yours very truly
