Dear Daniel
Tomorrow being your birthday. I thought I must write to you today. I feel like filling up this paper with loving and earnest wishes for you resent and future happiness also including Emma and the dear children. Hoping blessings may be thickly strewn around your paths —

It seems a very long time since I have had any tidings from Racine and would be much pleased to hear from any of you – This very sudden death has been quite a shock to us all & especially to [underlined: Sarah] but she has recovered some- -what and is more comfortable Joanna is still at Phillips and thinks the change is benefitting her health so much that she wishes to remain there all summer.

Willis is very little at home being engaged in the business of settling up this New [ County?] On the third of June John set out for the Yosemite Valley to attend the T. B. convention to be held there by Dr Vincent, and give two lectures on the geology of the Serrias, and then a long journey on mountains and rivers and then he expects to see us all the coming winter — My last news from -
