This afternoon I start back to Sidney Australia by the steamer Gelandia After a most instructive & charming six weeks in the two New Zealand islands, Have traveled hard studied hard & enjoyed & eaten hard. with health & strength renewed. A lot of detail as to life & work

here Mr Kling to whom I gave a letter will no doubt furnish by word of mouth He left (Auckland) for S.F. direct a few days ago. I was sorely tempted to go with him, but nature seems to hold & drive me to work here as in the old Sierra days. In particular I must see something of Queensland's Araucaria Forests

& those of the Archipelago to the northward Ill tell you about it all in a few months at longest Born[illegible], S[illegible] New Guinea Java etc..
As soon as I know what steamer I shall take I'll let you know so as to get letters from you at Honolulu

Not getting word from home is the one hard thing in the midst of my enjoyments-
Give my love to all the family Maggie, Sarah & her children Dan and remember me to the Colemans John Reid the Swetts etc- As for yourself & darlings you know that I am ever yours Heaven bless you always John Muir
