My dear Mr. Muir,
Our mutual friend Gilder tells me of your arrival here. Let me say if you are coming to Scotland, which of course you are, we shall be glad to have you visit us at Skibo. Mr. Sargent will also be welcome.
Hope you can give us a day or two at least.

My dear Mr.Carnegie,
Your kind invitation to visit you at Skibo dated June 8th, 1903, has just reached me (been received) after chasing me around the world. Had not the loss of my Russian passport prevented my visit to Scotland doubtless it would have been received in due time and gladly accepted, for I assure you,sir, that, though living most of my life in the American wildernesses, I have not been an uninterested spectator of your career as one of the most influential of Scotchmen; and though I have missed meeting you face to face, I am, with sincere thanks,
