Dear Ellie.
Goodbye. In a few of these swift days I'll be "o'er the sea & far [away?]". I have been hoping against hope that I might find a strip of time wide enough to allow a quick run to Los Angeles, but every day of late has been jambed with works big or little like a glacier Bay with icebergs.

or are going to be succeeded by others. No doubt you belong to many in Los Angeles, & nobody could ever imagine you lonely. Mr Dickey was here a short time ago, & the Judge himself came last week & climbed Whitney over & over again.
Wanda & Helen are getting up a party of ten or twelve to go to Hetch Hetchy & Yosemite. They leave S.F. May 16th & return June 20th I wish you could go with them. Sincerely wishing you happy good times wherever you may [in margin: go or stay I am faithfully yours]
