Dear Muir:
I have yours of the 15th. We are sailing on the White Star steamer Celtic, leaving New York on the 29th. I am counting on your getting to Boston about the 26th if you have luck in escaping from the President. As for our stay in England I have no plans. There are a few people I want to see there and we need be in no great hurry about getting to St. Petersburg. I am leaving all our plans in a perfectly elastic condition.
You ought to get letters from the President which will help us a great deal with our Ambassadors at St. Petersburg and Pekin. I am looking forward to a great deal of pleasure from this new association with you.
Faithfully yours,
[illegible]
John Muir, Esq.
