Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Cal.
My dear Muir,
We are delighted to hear that your pen is beginning to work.
I have not only seen Burroughs, but the Thompsons, and am glad to hear that you are in fine condition for either tramping or literary labor. You have in you the making of many books, but old Time with his scythe is after us all, so do not lose any time at your desk, and particularly bear in mind that "Autobiography of a Naturalist."
Mr.Scott, to whom I referred your suggestion about the Jordan book, has given it attention.
Faithfully yours,[ilegible]
Associate Editor.
