[blank?] going to Alaska
Martinez, May 25, 1899.
My dear Mr Lukens
I am going to S.F. tomorrow & if I can hear of Mr Turney I will gladly recommend you for forest work. Though it is not often that the best men get the places under government. When all these forest positions are brought under civil service rules a very great gain will be made.
I am starting for Alaska with the Harriman expedition & expect to see the glaciers in Cooks Inlet & Prince Williams Sound Goodbye.
Ever Yours
John Muir
