EDITORIAL OFFICE OF
THE Atlantic Monthly,
BOSTON.

May 16, 1809.

My dear Mr.Muir,

WE have been looking and hoping for the papers that you were to send for the Atlantic. When I remind you that they are long overdue, you know me too Well to accuse me of any impatience la the reminder, because we are thankful to got what you send in your own good time; but I am now making up some schedules for the early fall numbers of the magazine, and I should like very much to have your definite assurance that we may count upon several papers by you. It sounds somewhat far off to talk about fall numbers of the magazine in May, but you know we have to make preparation some time in advance. We are now at work on the number for August, and the September number will be in hand before we know it.
