My dear Muir,

You and I had some talk or correspondence at one time concerning the Mt. Rainier reserve, which has just been made a national park. I think-but would not say positively- that you gave us some sort of expectation that you would write on the subject for the magazine. Certainly we have declined two or three articles on the topic on the supposition that if we ever had a paper on hat it should be from you. Have you treated this subject for the Atlantic, or is it to be in the series you are writing for them? If not, how would you like to prepare an article on that topic for The Century, with the best procurable illustrations, and some account of your.adventures in climbing the mountain?

Yours faithfully

R.u.Johnson
