John Muir, Esq.,
Martinez, Cal.

My dear Muir,

Here are some notes which came to you after you left and which I have not before forwarded because I have expected a line from you giving your address, but by this time you must be half way across the continent.
I hope you had a glorious time of it in Florida and Louisiana, and that you found everybody well on your return. Please tell Mrs. Muir that we enjoyed very much our all too brief glimpse of you.
we are delighted with the photograph of you by Hollinger, showing you with a hat on and writing in your note-book [illegible]

Faithully yours,

[illegible]

P. S. I see that the Atlantic announces an article by you on the "Grand Canon of the Colorado." If I remember rightly, when I mentioned that topic to you as one that we desired to have you write about, you said it was impossible
[illegible]

for you to write on that subject until you should go there and study it up more. Our friend Page is a little precipitate in his announcements sometimes; perhaps he has jumped to conclusions in this instance.
