Martinez, Apr. 3. 1896

My dear Johnson.

The glorious news of the National Academy of Sciences Commission has kept me happy ever since I heard of it. This sure enough is a move direct towards permanent forest management & cannot fail.
I have just written to Senator Perkins to do his best for the $25000 carefully explaining the high character & importance of the Commission etc. & will get a resolution from the Sierra Club as soon as possible.
After I got your letter on the Oregon sheep men I got the Club Directors to pass a a strong resolution against reducing the area of the Cascade Reservation or any other but advising the reservation of all the public forest lands. Which was telegraphed to the Sec. of the Interior. I also preached the glories of the Commission. & now with blessings & admiration for R.U. Johnson

I am ever his friend John Muir
