seemed happy and hopeful. The season here has been very cook, but lately we are having lots of rain and the weather is very warm now, warm enough, to make us feel tired and stupid. but things are growing finely. In a letter David wrote to Annie some time since he said that Carrie and her two boys were with him, also that they were expecting Anne and perhaps Mary. so you will have lots of company this summer, and how much they will enjoy their visit. I received a Harpers Weekly a few days since, which I thought you had sent, many thanks for it. I have read your article on the "National Parks and Forest Reservations" and see that it has to one continued fight for their preservation

Dear brother John
I have been a long time in thanking you for your added kindness. Annie handed me your share of the money she received from Scotland last summer, for which I now send you many thanks, also for your own kind thought of me. I was very sorry indeed to hear that you had been ill so long I fondly hope that you are now in your usual health again. But Grippe often leaves bad effects, as I have found to my sorrow, that it takes some time to overcome
You will probably have heard that Joanna started at the appointed time for the East

but to you, and others who have seen and appreciated their wonderful value and grandeur it will seem well worth the continued vigilance necessary for their care and keeping.
In regard to our moving matters, Annie and I called upon Mr Rodgers and he kindly said that if anything suitable turned up he would let us know, in the meantime I put part of mine in one of the Banks and part in the other, and that is all that can be done at present. Mr [Gowran?] of the National Bank said that they sometimes had a good chance on Mortgages and as their Banks were prohibited from investing in investments of that kind, he might see a

her arrangements were made so carefully that she had very little worry about getting ready. she sent her best things off more than a week before she left herself, the other things she managed to sell to one and another who were willing to let them stay until she was ready to go, in that way she made her final preparations before giving up her own house entirely.
When the time came for her to go, and we saw her off on her journey, we felt that our number here were very small and that it would probably be a long time before we should see any of their faces again, and so were lonely. Walter wrote the day after they arrived, telling of their safety also that he was

delighted, and they were happy. later, we had a long letter from Joanna, she said that the journey was a very pleasant one, they saw Grace between trains at Chicago, Walter met them at Harisburg, Pa. three or four hours before reaching their destination. Their home is at Glenside, a suburb of Philadelphia, they thought it would be much pleasanter than being in the city during the warm weather. On arriving they went to the Hotel and after breakfast next morning went to the house prepared for them.
I forwarded the letter you sent to her, in my care, so perhaps she will have given you all the news herself, in writing she

good chance for us, but somehow I hardly like to have anything to do with them, for so far as I know people only given a mortgage in case of trouble or great need, and often at prices almost mpossible to pay either interest or principal, but perhaps I feel so because I do not know much about it in a business way, though I do know a little of the trouble they have made for some people I know.
I hope that Grandma, yourself and all the others of the family are will. Give my love to all.
