Dear Sister Mary.

Im glad to hear you got your money safely. I have not yet heard from the Portage three but expect to tomorrow then all will be served but Dan's whose address I was not sure of, & his draft will go in a day or two. Then a big job will be off my hands. I think you should write a note of thanks to Charles Notman Esq Dunbar, Scotland, for the highly satisfactory manner in which he settled the Trust, & requesting him to convey your thanks to the Trustees for their long good & faithful services, You might also send a pound or two to Trustee Buchanan who is minister of Grandfathers old Kirk. only if you feel like it But send nothing to Comb He is overpaid already. The lawyer Mr. Notman is also paid, but Mr Buchanan not a penny

Of course the trustees have no right to any compensation, but I thought a few dollars to the old church would be a good way to show satisfaction etc. So much for business, & now come on out & see some paintings & some trees hills, the ocean & some scenery not quite so much on the pancake pattern as fair Nebraska & not quite so sand blasty. Fares to the Christian Endeavor Convention will be low & no great inroad will be made on your little pile. Louie & the children say "Tell her to bring Helen." Your young! old schoolmate Miss Thayer is here also Davids daughter Carrie, & his Annie is coming soon. It will prolong & enrich your life & you must just come. Thats certain.
Im pegging away at literature Have the grippe or bronchitis, I have headache & am stupid. So goodnight

Ever your loving brother John Muir
