Dear Louie -
I'm on my way to Montreal by way of Lakes George & Champlain mostly see the woods in their glorious autumnal dress. I left Boston this morning & expect to be in Montreal tomorrow & return by the lakes & the White Mountains. Expect to be in Boston again in about a week. Then spend a few days seeing people, Agarriz, [Mrs?] Gray Wolcott Gibs Hunnewell & some of Pages friends. Then go to NY. & spend a few days then home, which way I dont yet know. I am now along & feel pretty lonesome after such lively company in the south.

I meant to stop at NY on way from Kentucky but was advised to go North soon as possible to see the woods at their best. Spent a pleasant eventful day down the peninsula of Delaware & also had fine views of Virginia. Spent two nights at Canby's fine residence in Wilmington & would have seen more of Delaware had not Sargent been taken sick then & compelled to hurry home. Something like Grippe. Im quite well. Have not had a single letter since leaving home. Expected a lot at Sargents. Surely there must be some at N.Y. It seems years since the trip began.
Love to all Maggie Helen Wanda
Ever Yours lovingly
