A letter from Mary yesterday tells us that Maggie has another grandchild at Crete, we do not know whether son or daughter I must write to Maggie and to David as I am owing both letters.
I do not hear anything of your present work. How are you occupied this winter?

Dear Brother John:_

I was just inwardly scolding myself for not having written to you at the holiday seaon, or later, to thank you for your Christmas remembrance of us all, when along comes another kindness by way of Sarah in the form of an X bill. I do not believe I deserve any kindness from anybody, for I am becoming worse and worse about letter writing, or any expression of sentiment

of any kind.
I guess you must think back to the old days when we were an unbroken family around that old pine table at home; and remember that I had a place there, in order to keep the flame of family love burning, so far as I am concerned.
Everything goes on calmly and quietly as usual here the only thing which has happened to cause a ripple was the burning of our slowly repaired and reconstructed church, we feel

very sad about it, for it represented a good many free will offerings of poor people but the church people are bearing it very courageously and look forward to renewed effort.
The children are doing better than ever, in their studies; Ethel, by a little extra exertion, has caught up a class and would, if she were here, enter the High School after next vacation. Bessie too has been promoted but she is not quite so willing to apply herself yet, maybe she will by & bye Bernice continues to say & do original things and amongst them all we
