Dear Mary.

Your letter came in due time & here is another you are beginning the New year with less silence so we will now be able perhaps to renew our acquaintance Your fine storms must inspire your muse No need of me to tell their glories. All our hills are green & a good many of the flowers are in bloom & birds are singing. tens of thousands of robins are feeding in the orchards & vineyards, & also a good many larks. Your friend Miss Thayer is downstairs- just came with Mrs. Westlake to pay us a visit. She has a merry & far-reaching laugh.
You spoke of handing over that Scotch money to me. I dont know but it might be a good plan, not that I want it for myself, but for you. after Taking out what you need or want.

Ever your loving brother

John
