My dear Muir,-
I have an idea regarding your Yosemite article. So long aslong as the question of the extension of the grant is likely to come up, why not make an article on the whole fifty miles square, with a rapid description of the Yosemite as a nucleus, taking in the Tuolumne Canyon, the peaks along the Mono trail, in short, the territory shown on the inclosed map, one of the number sent to me by Robinson? If then we could get some photographs of the other portions of this territory, it would relieve the whole subject of triteness [ illegible] include three or four of the most notable. Do you know where any can be had?
We should like to follow up this article by one by you on King's River Canyon, as we have already said; and if you can arrange to get negatives, we should like to illustrate it, possibly, in part with Robinson's drawings, if he can draw for our purposes, which is not yet demonstrated.
We are very desirous to print these two articles before we begin the Early California series, and should be greatly disappointed if you did not come to time with the MS. Why not put

on your armor, and make two effective articles,-not sentimental, but descriptive?
I am glad you are pleased with the Yosemite [illegible]. Yes, [McKenzie?] did do a [illegible] of work. With kindest regards to Mrs. Muir and the [illegible], Yours faithfully,
R. U. Johnson
Mr. John Muir,

I regret to say that Mrs. Johnson has just buried her mother.
