It is by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

It is commencing to rain now so I suppose it will not snow as I hoped it would.

Papa did not go up to the ranch this week and is consequently anxious for next Friday to come.

Hoping to see you again before many weeks I remain your true friend.

Dear Mr. Muir,_

You don't know how nice it was of you and how much I appreciate the little album you sent. It is lovely and whenever I show any one the drawing on the first page they all say, "That is just like Mr. Muir."

I showed it to nearly all the teachers at school and they were all delighted with it.

You couldn't ahve sent me any thing that I would like better. Mamma wants to know if you would please send one of your autographs to her for Mrs. [Hoote?], and also one for herself. Mrs. [Hoote?] asked Mamma to get her one when you were down here, but she forgot to ask you for it.

Mamma sends love to Mrs. Muir and hopes soon to hear good news from "Castle Muir."

Carl came home and spent about three weeks with us. He has gone back now to his school and in the first letter we had from him he only had

three or four pupils in school.

It has been very cold for some time here. Yesterday it rained and was a little warmer but today there is snow on the mountain and it is colder than ever.

We are always glad to see it on the mountain and I would like to have it nearer sometimes, but I guess the rest of the folks would not.

We have heard that Mr. Fish was quite sick, but we hope that he is better now.

I am reading the "Pearl of Orr's Island" and I like it very much. Did you ever read it.
