My Dear Bro John

I received your kind letter and it is a shame that I have not answered before this time but have been quite busy for some time trying to get all ready for winter.

I was glad to hear of your safe arrival home after so many delay's on the way and that Annie got along so well. and hope that she is still steadily improving in health.

I have been trying to follow to the letter all the directions you gave me, in your kind anxiety about my health. and have swallowed quarts & quarts

of oatmeal tea between [meals?] and done justice to parrich & milk. and taken soemthing stronger at bed time and slept alone too. sometimes I thought I felt stronger. but about 2 nights ago I had one of my worst spells. after going to bed I had a chill especially between my shoulders I got up and took some B[T?] water. and with other means got warm sometime after took another spoonful and droped to sleep. but must hae had a hard fit. by the chill and other bad feelings which comes after. and especially the soreness & stiffness in my limbs with being rigid I suppose. Y the terrible mental depression which is hardest to bear of all. quite a chapter about myself. I hope I have not made you nervous
