Dear Danl.
I am happy to know by Margt. that you and Emma and baby are well. Margt was much pleased with her visit Has this money [illegible] affected your comfort much many of the [illegible] [illegible] are very much troubled our bank is shut, they are bankrupt, your father had over two thousand dollars in the bank – John Reid put in two thousand dollars only about three days before it was closed
[2]
he felt dreadfully about it at first – David did not have any money in it but very many had – business is not near as good as before. Our bank was not chartered it was only a loan bank – the President has given up all his property so people will get part of their money if not all Sarah has been in town two days visiting all round with her new baby Your father got very tired living at Portage so he left home on the 15th and went to Hamilton in Canada he wrote to us that he likes the place very much

and says that he has bough a house there — he wishes us to sell all our furniture and all the houses and says I must come there at once — but I objected to this arrangement — and wrote to him that I could not think of moving at this season of the year — I have not yet had an answer to my letter I have no wish whatever to leave my present home especially as I do not think he will settle any where I would like to know. What you think of all this I [trust?] my path of duty will be made plain to me and that grace will be given me to walk in it. I hope he will come home again
