Dear Doctor, I sent you directions about my trunk some time ago but the interrupt- tion of the mails may have prevented you from receiving them. If you have not yet sent it omit the Sc[illegible] the clock If you & your love are con- joined accept my most hearty congratulations. We have been splendidly snowbound but warm weather has released as Robins & Thrushes sing, & Willows are in bloom. If I were rich I would send you money enough to visit our valley.
If you watch the N.Y. Tribune you may occasionally see an article from my pen. The first appeared in the issue of Dec 9th Let me hear from you soon. Give my most cordial regards to your Love & I am ever thine John
