Dear John
Your large and wonderful books arrived this morning safely How much a toil and anxiety those labors have cost you none can estimate, but thank God he has brought your safely through it all I thank you heartily for your kindness in sending them to me
and I shall ever and always appreciate them A letter from Margt. yesterday informs me of Louie[s?] illness with the grippe I hope by this time she is much better I was pleased to know that the rest of the family were well We are all well here I am better than I was expected to be, after my severe attack of the grippe
David and all his folk are well some of his family are here from Dakota and part of them are in Michigan visiting I have not seen my great grandson yet but probably will this week Annie joins me in wishing you all a Happy New Year
