Ind' Tuesday 12th
Dear mother I am still keeping well though still confined mostly to bed I do not suffer pain and am every way more comfortable than could be expected my friends are kind beyond my ability to write
I spend my time in thinking, sleeping and in hearing my friends read

my appetite is returning and in a few weeks I hope to be busy and [illegible]. I can see a little through the injured eye and it is not yet disfigured. Almost every day my employer visits me.
They have built a new shop and have given me full charge of it so I will not have to work so hard
