the baby, it is a pretty good one. She is thriving first rate, and has got two teeth she can not stand alone yet but she can clap her hands and chatter her own way finely. Anna & George are at school and are getting along finely. The only thing I feel sorry about leaving Portage for is on account of the school and church, but there is a very fine school house [deleted about 5] a little more than half a mile from our home just in sight they have generally a good teacher there, there is four months teaching this summer and then there is preaching every Sabbath just now. David is on the [Farm?] all the time just now, he has bought horses and is helping to put in the crops so as to get some extreis done that would otherwise have been left. Of course you know that Maggie is away to the Water [Cure?]. John had a letter from her last Friday she feels as if she had got to the right place, and thinks if she does not get better there she will not get better anywhere. She is forbidden to write much so that I suppose she hardly does to any one except John but you must write to help to keep her from wearying I will send her address I have not felt strong at all this spring. it takes very little to tire me out. I [saw?] Father today Mother and the rest are all well. trusting that your health is good I must bid you good night as it is quite late. Affectionately yours Ann Galloway

My Dear Brother Dan - I have many times reproached myself for not having written you long ere this, but I have had so much to do between the baby, sewing, and many other things that I suppose men do not know much about that it seemed as though I could not get your [length?] but her I am at last "better late than not t all" There is nothing but changes Dan, David did hear of more land for sale and bought it too. I suppose you have heard this that all of our old Farm is sold and who bought it not Mr. Ritchards we have never head another word about him although he promised faithfully to come but of course that is no matter now. When we came down here in the fall I had no thought of moving for sometime at least but here we are just on the point of pulling up

Write me at once Dan and tell me how you are getting along

and moving into the country. David has bought a place about eight miles out of Portage I do not know whither you will know it or not, it is the place Mr Chase used to own. ther is 160 acres with a small frame house. I pay $2.000 but the man be bought it from agreed to put in 30 acres of wheat 10 of oats and 10 of corn and furnished the seed, so that makes it not quite so much. David bids me tell you that if you are coming home this summer you can have some harvesting to do with him but I suppose if the work stands out where you are you will have no idea of that. The elevater was closed some time ago. David wandered about for some time, doing not much of anything but thought that would never do so he went out to hunt a farm and bought this, it is a good place and he has no idea of leaving it, as far as we can see just now it will be our home

Mr. [Lone?] has bought this house and as part pay I have got a nice stercoscope and six dozen of pictures, wasn't that a fine arrangement Dan. So you see I can sit down at the table and see some of the beautiful waterfalls near Owen Sound and Collingwood (that I suppose you have seen) without much trouble, the suspension bridge and the splendid falls you and John walked so far to see and nobody knows all what Fountain Lake the old home [pond?] all the rest you will see them when you come by the way. I have had Anna and George's likeness taken I will send you one. You will see they look as if they had either been whipped or were going to be. And then Anna's arm is rather cramped looking and her dress comes out white instead of black and white checked. I wanted to have it done over again but Mrs Jolly would not do that, so I had to be content I had a small common picture taken of
