Mr. John Muir:-

Will you kindly send your photograph for the purpose of illustrating your sketch (that is a sketch of you) of “California Writers” to appear soon in a department in the “Wash” taking up journalists, and the old time writers as well as the later schools, making about one hundred in all? I trust you will be willing to

aid us, in order that the record may be complete – as nothing of the kind can now be referred to in any of our libraries or elsewhere. I shall also make a catalogue for reference, of as many books by “Cal. Writers” as I can find, and any odd ones known to you, I shall appreciate your mentioning. Trusting that you may not be too long to reply, and that you will kindly respond with the photograph. I remain very respectfully

Ella Sterling Cummins.
