7f O New York. Sep. 26, 1693.

Dear Wanda and Helen:

I was very glad to get your letters yesterday. They were both very interesting and well written. Tell Mama that I got her telegram yesterday (Monday) but Grandma's I got Saturday. If Mr. Gilder gets back to Yew York tomorrow then Mr. Johnson and I will go to Washington about the forests, but I don't want to go alone. This is the only thing that keeps me in Vow York. I mean to stay a day or two at Chicago, and with Mother, then, my dears, I'm coming straight home, declining all other invitations.
I got some clothes made in Edinburgh just before I left, and while trying them on I stood between two mirrors and saw the back of my head for the first time. Then I noticed a spot nearly bald and thought perhaps I would have to wear a wig some day and you would all be talking, about it. Here is what I thought you would be saying. I hope it will amuse you a little while you are waiting for me to appear.
