Dear Father & Mother
Your unworthy Son once more undertakes to address his Mutch [much] Slighted Parents—
I have several times written, but have received no answer from any of you, since I left home, with the Exception, of Austin & Peter, they state that our Parents, now reside in Erie County, Pennsylvania, & a few other particulars with regard to the Family, but it would give me great satisfaction to hear more fully--it is a long time since I left home & many times I have been ready, to bring my business to a close & endeavor to come home; [ ] [ ] but have been hindered hitherto-as our business is at present, it would be the height of impolicy to set a time to come Home, however I will endeavor, by the assistance of Divine Providence, to come home as soon as possible, [it would be] the greatest pleasure I could enjoy, would be to accompany, or be in company, with my friends, but whether I Shall ever be allowed the privelege [privilege], God only knows, I feell [feel] the need of the wach [watch] & care of a Christian Church—you may well Suppose that our Society is of the Rougest [roughest] kind, Men of good morals seldom enter into business of this kind—I hope you will remember me before a Throne of grace—perhaps you may think it strange that I do not give you some particulars with regard to what is passing in this country but for this, it is, perhaps, better that we wait a meeting.
I wish I could hear from my Parents, & if they please to write, let them write soon & direct their Letters to the care of Wm. [William] L. Sublette, St. Louis Missouri; Mr Sublette is a Partner of mine, he [will] be the bearer of this to St. Louis & after remaining there [about two] months, he will return to Join our other Partner ([Mr.] David E. Jackson) & my self, in the Mountains, so I wish no time to be lost in writing.
May God of his infinite mercy allow me soon to join My Parents, is the Prayer of your undutiful
Son
