The oaks are full in leaf (Q. [Quercus] sonomensis californica) Live-oaks in full flower the lavish amount of polleny tresses coloring the tree.
The trail to Upper Yo. [Yosemite] Fall is well shaded with overarching live oaks glossy leaves scattering the light as if made of glass, the fine strong gray limbs interlacing overhead. Ferns are uncoiling, birds nesting, It is the time of greatest bloom. Meadows fresh & green, not flooded, River full & strong flowing deep with tranquil majesty between its leafy piney banks pouring its precious tribute of live giving [crystal] water to the hot thirsty lowlands
The falls are now in the fine voice & dress. sounding their glowing symphonies with the sublime power & deliberation so characteristic of Nature. The crowds of pleasure seekers are scarce seen save about the hotel steps.
This val [valley] still after all my wanderings yrs [years] seems to me the grandest of all the terrestrial temples that God has [built] made
