5 Circular groves over meadow, old [river] bends Saw & heard 2 new birds first dusky with light bands visible on wings when flying. The other a small yellow breasted quick motioned fellow that sings exactly like a robin only more refinedly & sweetly Ceanothus in glorious [prime] streams make deltas because when weaken flow to one side or the other of large heaps carried down in their strong days Large ice & snow bank at foot of [1st] cascade, smaller one at 2nd

6 a single plant of Penstemon Menziesii with 294 brilliant purple flowers besides many small buds when I showed to Eastern (NY) lady simply remarked “ We have penstemons at home” with careless [slouchy] accent.
