& striped with angular notchy gulches. In bed looking dreamily into sky saw shark gulch in Milky Way, thick purple sky of plains, Indian [miners] fishy Chinamen [boasted] Dutch wife. Hills that blocked the [new] [down] the notch canon to west showed that we were nearing the plains. All sand felt in S Head in 5 sand papers only birds [s] in blankets in [Bercon] in the one fish in crack etc all [infinitum]. Beautifully 6th day. Bed in sand, open notch with [rock] purple eve & morn, cleft rock difficult crossing horseshoe [hind] [ ] slate v [very] metamorphic [Tarweed].
