A little bluish, black-headed wagtail & abundant [signs] of [grizzly]. Immense deposits of [sand ] [where] cascade & next [lower] [stream] leaps valley both very graceful falls. 9 streams 1st day 5 new plants [1] new bird [1] new dragon fly & crusty winged lancer. Trees mostly small oaks of valley nutmeg new element in bank [hearty] groves of beautiful [ ] hundreds along four ms [miles] below Yosem [Yosemite]. One [tissue] of pictures & of [ ] cascades, Rocks domo-[peakular] cleavage about as Yosem [Yosemite] rock in [ ] in a few places. River now at [ ] work of life but with all the beauty & poetry of unmarred nature. Wished to camp in [mid] [of]

stream on smooth flat rock [but] [he] said would have nightmare. Lake ½ m [mile] long duck cranes islandic rocks [Turning] [behind] beheld red [ ] [ ] of the [ ] [weathered] into long [strait] [ ] [ ] with the [ ] [ ] [&] [the] [white] oak & found among other [ ] [ ] [ ] of a gold [seeker] beautiful yellow & purple [ ] [ ] [ ] Slate very [meta].[sketch] contorted granite passed gradually into slate.
