The large trail trib [tributary] of 7th camp rises rapidly for 2 ms [miles] from alt [altitude] of 7050 to near 8000 runs in rocky channels bordered by vert [vertical] & jagged walls- on either side as we ascend come to steep slopes of gravel composed of sand & cinders but [chiefly] sand & small water washed pebbles. Alt Ford South Fork Joa [Joaquin] 6800 ft. Salt marsh with [rank] [ ] [ ] Rushes [etc]
