147 High banks of polished gravel from stream bed gathered up & carried high by snow avalanches seen good instance below Merced Lake [sketch: strm [stream] bed; Heap of mixed boulders end of Lake Merced; moved from opp [opposite] side thus] Enjoyed beautiful snow [storm] just as reached Lake Merced [coincidence] with storm of last yr same time Storm V [very] beaut [beautiful] young firs drooped & pines also some of grass blades some [erect] [waving] yel [yellow] & green above white. All took it kindly Aspens glorious in washed color
148 in green [pines] Light oh how [thrilling] as gleamed out upon the many brows & fronts of mtn [mountain] side towards eve Polished granite on wh [which] I ran [shone] & [ ] wet & washed as if cldlike [cloudlike] The glaciers had floated higher & left all [their] rocks to the light that very day Storms are words of God, of love. They come to the [trees] & birds & are known & accepted as blessings but they come to us while in our ignorance we know them not &
